They Did It!

Nancy and crew passed the 100 Hours legislation in a mere 42 hours of House floor time. I didn't hope the Democrats would be this efficient and worthwhile once elected. So far, they have passed bills that will implement the last of the 9/11 commission reccomendations, increase minimum wage, create a pool to invest in renewable energy. Check the link for a full list.

Seriously, we need to elect democrats more often.

Widget Things

I made a widget! It's a command-line dice roller for D&D. If you use Mac OS X, download it here. I'll work on porting this to Yahoo! widgets and Google homepage gadgets if I feel like it.

Update 1/26/07: The widget has been updated to support subtraction and multiple dice. I'll keep updating if I find any more problems.

Most retarted Thieves EVER

Posted by Picasa
This is us, recharging my car after the most retarted thieves known to man broke into it.

I awoke Monday morning (well, not really - I played 9 hours straight of cooperative Gears of War, and merely arose from the trance that induced) to find that my car wouldn't start. The items from the glove compartment were strewn across the back seat, and the windshield wiper speed selector was broken off.

Here's what I think happened: Some drunk fratboys decided to see if they could steal something. They poked around the parking lot until they found a car with unlocked doors. It happened to be mine tonight. They tried looking for things worth stealing - throwing the items in the glove compartment around. They probably played with the controls for all the fun that is in a drunken state, but I'd be surprised if it got them anywhere. They broke the windshield wipers, hopefully accidentally, and then left.

Oh, they did steal one thing of value: my $5 CD wallet full of burned copies of mostly free music. Idiots.

Anyway, big kudos to Grape Road and my boyfriend for jumping the car and getting it moving again. I will see if my insurance covers broken off controls and sharpied words all over my dashboard - it should. But other than those minor issues, the car seems to be fine.

Hope everyone is having a good week so far!

Winter Things

So, I finished processing the multimedia from my adventures over winter break. Ohayocon now has a photoset from me on Flickr [here], and the rest of my winter break pics have their own, much larger photoset [here].

I also took some videos at Ohayocon, and some others throughout the trip. I am unsure if I will combine the rest of the videos, but I posted a montage of a couple random things that didn't quite make the picture scene on Youtube [here].

I think my break turned out to be really exciting, although we did spend quite a few days at home relaxing (which I should hope any good vacation would include).

Hope everyone else had a good break, too!

New Year's Eve

New Year's Eve
Originally uploaded by agius.
So, my new year began with a bang. We went to Daria's awesome annual New Year's party, and my favorite boyfriend (seen left) and I had a blast. We played with Daria's Wii, played some analog table tennis (more fun than digital!) and had some lovely champagne.

I made some New Year's Resolutions - which aren't that big a deal to me, since they will get on my todo list like any other goal I decide to pursue. Here they are:
  • Establish a habit of healthy eating. Learn to instinctively avoid sugary and fatty things.
  • Establish a habit of daily exercise. Preferably on a routine.
  • Take one photo per day every day this year. Try to regularly upload them to Flickr.
  • Get to 250 blog posts on Neat Things by next January.
I managed to keep most of last year's resolutions. I didn't lose the weight (and in fact gained a bunch back), but I did bring my GPA back up after that marketing fiasco. I sort of moved ahead in my career - I stayed in Lafayette and lived on my own during the summer. I also learned to quit worrying so much about internships and trust my skills to land me a job. Finally, I more than made my post count (and wrote a novel to boot!).

So, good luck to everyone else out their with their resolutions! 2007 is looking up, and I'm excited to see what it brings!
