Open Letter

An Open Letter To Those Born After 1982 (Or The One Thing Your Parents Got Right) chartreuse (BETA):
I’m sure your caregiver wants or wanted you to get a good job at a big corporation with tons of benefits.

Wrong move.

The bigger the company the faster they fail and the harder it is to stop their failure.

You want to go small where you can be important faster and have a say when things need to change. Fast.
This is an interesting philosophy. If you take complete care of yourself and work for a small - medium size company, you are probably in a much more stable position in case of massive emergencies.

I have to say, I could definitely picture myself switching jobs every 5 years, and depositing my retirement money into a Swiss account while purchasing my own albiet cheaper health insurance (though in Canada, I wouldn't even have to do that).

This is an interesting read.

Ruckus Board Things

So, I have nearly completed my personal art project for the summer. I was hoping to keep a guestbook, so that I would know everyone who came over whilst I borrowed the Wilsey's place for the interim months between semesters. I wasn't 100% faithful about making people sign it, but I did pretty well. Now, I need to scan the book and post it to flickr.

But for now, I have a new art project. I bought a whiteboard and posted it outside my room, and every day I intend to start a discussion of some sort, and then post it to a blog set up for ruckus board pics.

Feel free to join the ruckus by posting comments, pictures, and other random things! w00t!

Garageband Things

So, it's not the greatest music program in the world, but I feel it has a step or two up on the much less free Sony Acid. I wanted to make music NOW. So I did. Thank you, Apple and GarageBand.Technorati Tags: ,

Dwindling In Unbelief: Who has killed more, Satan or God?

Dwindling In Unbelief: Who has killed more, Satan or God?:
I counted the number of people that were killed by the God in the Bible. I came up with 2,038,334, which, of course, greatly underestimates God's total death toll, since it only includes those killings for which specific numbers are given. No attempt was made to include the victims of Noah's flood, Sodom and Gomorrah, or the many plagues, famines, fiery serpents, etc., with which the good book is filled. Still, 2 million is a respectable number even for world class killers.

But how does this compare with Satan? How many did he kill in the Bible?

Well I can only find ten, and even these he shares with God, since God allowed him to do it as a part of a bet
A good reference for when the preachers come 'round at the start of the schoolyear.

Neat Things - Now in Web2.0!

My page becomes a million times more Web 2.0 when I add a reflective logo and "beta" sign. Observe!

A lot of people complain about Web 2.0, and call it a return to the zealous overhyping of the 1990's. But I think that, as a set of design principles and a methodology for creating useful web services, Web 2.0 is as good an amalgamated term as any. How else to distinguish useful and cool sites like Flickr from older, crappier services like Photobucket?

It's only when managers and venture capitalists use the term "web 2.0" that it becomes a problem.

Slashdot | Microsoft To Enable User-Created Xbox 360 Games

Slashdot | Microsoft To Enable User-Created Xbox 360 Games
Microsoft has revealed XNA Game Studio Express, a new product which will allow indie developers and students to develop simultaneously on Xbox 360 and PC, and share their games to others in a new Xbox 360 'Creators Club'. XNA Game Studio Express will be available for free to anyone with a Windows XP-based PC, and will provide them with what's described as "Microsoft's next-generation platform for game development."
It was also described as a "YouTube for video games." Microsoft has been doing some cool things with the Xbox Live Arcade, but this might make me buy a 360.

Blow Your Mind Today

You need to blow out your brain every now & then. The research says so, and some of my favorite lifehackers agree.

So in that vein, I present to you The Time Fountain (embedded YouTube, and worth it). Enjoy!

Heat Things

Heat Zen:
We seem to be in the middle of a crushing, globally-scaled heat wave. Has this sort of thing ever happened before 1950? Looking at the average global temperature over the last 2000 years, we seem to be at a high point, by a number of different constructions.

I'm not one for apocolyptic scenarios. For example, I don't think the whole world can 'catch fire' from the awful business between Isreal and Lebanon. But we better do something about global warming soon. Maybe Peak Oil will take care of it for us, but I don't think we can count on it (if counting on an economic disaster of global proportions is considered a strategy in any light).

A good friend of mine nearly blacked out from heat exhaustion yesterday. Anyone else feeling the heat?
